Voltage & warning tag FAQs

What are voltage marking tags used for?

They show the voltage present at a panel, disconnect, junction box or piece of equipment, so anyone opening it knows what's inside. Common examples are 480 VOLTS, 208/120 VOLTS and 3 PHASE.

Can you make DANGER and CAUTION tags?

Yes. We engrave the wording you supply, such as DANGER HIGH VOLTAGE or CAUTION 2 SOURCES. Confirm the exact wording, colors and format with the engineer of record or your safety program before you order.

What color should a voltage tag be?

Use what your spec or facility standard calls for. Red with white text is a common choice for warnings, and we also offer black, white, yellow, blue and green. Confirm color requirements with the engineer of record.

Will these tags pass inspection?

We build tags to match the wording, color and size you specify, and you approve a proof before we engrave. We can't promise an inspection result, so confirm requirements with the engineer of record or your inspector.

Can I order just a few voltage tags?

Yes. There's no minimum. Order one tag or a full set for the job, with a free proof either way. Pair them with panel tags to label each panel in one order.

Where are voltage and warning tags used?

  • Panelboards
  • Disconnects
  • Junction & pull boxes
  • Transformers
  • Switchgear & MCCs
  • Equipment room doors
